Maui Vacation Rental

Kihei

SOUTH MAUI

There are two distinctly different sections of Kihei: north and south. Our guests are split on which they prefer, but generally they feel strongly one way or the other.

North Kihei has less of a resort feel, with only a few stores and restaurants. Expect windier conditions in North Kihei, making it a favorite for wind and kite surfers. Stretches of the beaches here are beautiful, and crescent shaped Sugar Beach is Maui’s longest stretch of walking beach. The shoreline here is generally far less crowded and it’s also rockier. Swimming is spotty here and the wind tends to whip up the clarity of the water. There are pockets of snorkeling spots, but the beaches and reefs here do not compare with those in South Kihei.

The unofficial beginning of South Kihei is the Kalama Park/Foodland area, and a block south begins the world class beaches that define the area's appeal to the relaxing sun worshiper and watersports enthusiast. There's also a tidy little surf break here. Condos range from reasonably priced to very expensive on the south Kihei shoreline. Most are located across the street from the beaches, with easy access a short walk away. Many of the condos across the street from the ocean have spectacular views (we'll provide actual photos of the views). If you have any questions about where any property is located relative to the good beaches, just call or e-mail and ask — we’re beach people!

Generally, the further south your accommodations, the more expensive the nightly rate.
